Life Lessons From My Friend, Robert Cook

Quick Rob, make a decision!!!

In a recent discussion on highway safety, our resident designer shared a tidbit with me that was far too profound to keep to myself. The conversation centered on braking versus swerving to avoid a colision with one of nature’s creatures, to which he said, “It’s safer to plow right through the little critters than to slam on the brakes or swerve.”

A rare glimpse into the mind of a man whose promotional pitches never disappoint, often offend and usually border on criminality. Please look for more life lessons in the coming weeks, but for now, just plow right through to the weekend!

OK! first of all, that is not a “LITTLE CRITTER” in the picture up there. IT IS A BROWN BEAR!!!! the largest of which is the kodiak bear which can grow to be 1500 pounds. again i repeat, THAT IS NOT A LITTLE CRITTER!!!!! that is like smashing into a geo metro because it isn’t going fast enough. what i meant by the comment was that little things, like squirrels, rats, cats, chihuahuas (god i hate those little things) and yes, even little bunny rabbits, are safer to hit than to try and swerve to avoid because of the possibility of hitting another car, or losing control and running your own car off the road.

my personal rule of thumb, if its smaller than a terrier, give it the gas…

You two are like Evil Bill and Evil Ted in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey. Everytime they come in for a landing with the phone booth they aim for a cat. “Aim for the cat, dude. Aim for the cat!”

Well, I’ve heard enough from you heartless road-kill-creators. I, myself, am a swerver. I cannot stand the thought of being the cause of the death of such a cute and little animal. Surely, somewhere its family would wonder why it didn’t come home. Poor little fella!

I am a little torn. If I can swerve safely, I will. However, if it is something that can’t be prevented, what can you do? If it comes down to my life, or their life, I’m sorry, but I’m hitting the gas!

This one time I accidentally ran over a duck! It was the saddest thing I ever seen! It was just chilling on the side of the road, it was dark, and I didn’t see it, and it ran right out in front of the car. The worst of it was that it had a “friend” with it, (which I didn’t hit, thanks goodness) and I swear the thing stayed there for like a week after the duck had been moved! (Thanks Dad!) I bawled my head off for like 3 straight hours! Every time I drive by the spot where it happend, I still think of that little duck and it’s “friend.” Poor thing.
