mothers day

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

so mothers day is coming up on sunday, and i just wanted to put a little education out into the world for whomever stumbles across our blog…

The United States celebrates Mother’s Day on the second Sunday in May. In the United States, Mother’s Day was loosely inspired by the British day and was imported by social activist Julia Ward Howe after the American Civil War. However, it was intended as a call to unite women against war. In 1870, she wrote the Mother’s Day Proclamation as a call for peace and disarmament. Howe failed in her attempt to get formal recognition of a Mother’s Day for Peace. Her idea was influenced by Ann Jarvis, a young Appalachian homemaker who, starting in 1858, had attempted to improve sanitation through what she called Mothers’ Work Days. She organized women throughout the Civil War to work for better sanitary conditions for both sides, and in 1868 she began work to reconcile Union and Confederate neighbors.

K/BIS by the Numbers

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

40,081: Total steps according to my pedometer. That equals 26.72 miles!

10: Total number of events Merlot coordinated and managed while in Chicago.

126: Total number of editors and reporters Merlot’s clients saw in their booths at the show.

13: Number of camera crews that stopped by Merlot’s clients’ booths.

11: The combined average media tour attendance per booth and per media tour (each client had multiple tours).

1,200: And just to reiterate, we did recycle all 1,200 empty plastic water bottles!

Every year, the Merlot team is fortunate enough to attend the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (K/BIS) to support our clients in the industry. K/BIS is the world’s largest tradeshow for kitchen and bath professionals. This is like Super Bowl, New York Fashion Week and the American Idol finale all rolled into one for us.

Months of planning and pitching comes down to just three days of execution at the show. It’s a pretty incredible thing to be part of.

Well, K/BIS 2008 has come and gone and as the office comes down from its incredible adrenaline high, we thought it would be fun to share our completed K/BIS checklist so you can see what we, as a team, accomplished at this year’s show in Chicago:
