Merlot’s Summer Potluck!

posted July 10th, 2009 by Kym

This is my first Water Cooler entry…Yea!

To embrace the hot days of summer,  we had a Merlot Summer Potluck at the office. Everyone brought their favorite summer dish to share (mine was the coconut cake) and Brenda’s contribution was good ole margaritas. Not only did they taste great but she put little umbrellas in our drinks for a pretty presentation. Well after lunch and drinking the margaritas, I decided to put the umbrellas to good use by decorating mine and Zsavonne’s (AKA “Z”) hair.

At first, Z was not a willing participant until she saw how cute my hair looked. Then she let me put one in her hair too not knowing it was sticking out of the top of her head (see pictures). We both had a good laugh!

Now that’s what I call Creative Chic.

Oh and did I mention, there was no alcohol in the margaritas?

Cheers!

Recipe: My kind of “sparkler”

posted July 2nd, 2009 by Debi

While at Sunset magazine’s celebration weekend, I was treated to a drink I just have to share. It was the best cocktail I have ever tasted (other than merlot, of course)! Here’s the recipe just in time for your July 4th celebrations:

RED, WHITE & SPARKLING!

3 oz. Pinot Grigio

1 TBLS Simple Syrup

1 TBLS Lemon Juice

–pour  into martini shaker over ice, then pour into a martini glass. Add a TBLS of Chambord (pour it slowly down one side of the glass so it pools at the bottom), then top it off with Brut Champagne.  It’s amazing! Crisp, cool and not too sweet! Enjoy!

Say Cheese

Debi and I recently attended the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show in Hot-lanta and if you follow Debi on Get To The Grapes, you already know it was a successful show!  For those ‘tradeshow goers’ out there, you understand that three days of early mornings, back-to-back meetings and very late nights can get exhausting.   And when you are exhausted, everyone handles it differently.  Some can’t keep their thoughts straight, some get blood shot eyes and others, like Debi and myself, find even the smallest things hilarious.  Here is a prime example of something as simple as taking a picture becomes the funniest thing in the world.

Here are our clients Brent and Ramsay…

Take One: Say Cheese!

The good ole boys!

The good ole boys!

See how simple that is!  Now it’s the ladies turn…

Take One: Say Cheese!

Okay, wait...my right eye looks like it's straying. Do over!

Okay, wait...my right eye looks like it's straying. Ramsay, take another picture.

Let’s try this again…Take Two!

Ramsay, stop making me laugh!

Alright guys, stop making me laugh!

Take Three…

What's so funny? And what happened to Debi?

Okay, I've lost it. And what happened to Debi?

Take Four…

We almost have it pulled together.

We almost have it pulled together.

Take Five…

Okay, now Debi's lost it.

Okay, now Debi's lost it.

And finally, Take Six:

Two words: Dr. Horrible

Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog

I may be giving up a little bit of “man cred” with this one but I figure all of the home repair, electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, painting, building, demoing, etc. I have some I can spare. Caveat complete:

Everyone loves music, and movies, and this combines the two into a GREAT little miniseries published exclusively for the web. Most of the cast you won’t recognize, but NPH himself plays the title character! And, because I am me and can’t leave you without at least one bit of trivia, the whole thing was done during the writers strike because of a loophole that barred writers from producing content for TV but not the web. Thank you writer’s strike!

Happy Earth Day!

posted April 22nd, 2009 by Jana

Poor little guy thinks this is food - and it's OUR fault!

Happy Earth Day, Water Cooler posse! I can’t ignore my hippie-tendencies today, so I’m formally calling for all Merlot Team Members to abandon their dependency on plastic bags. Invest in some environmentally-friendly alternatives. Pick up four or five and take them with you to the store, on shopping trips, or even put your lunch in them and bring them to the office. You’d be surprised how incredibly convenient they are!

If not for me… do it for the turtles.

Blog Series: 101 ways to waste your time online

An Open Letter To Cadbury

posted April 13th, 2009 by Jana

Dear Cadbury,

Hi, how are you? I’m fine. Hey, guess what? This weekend, I polished off two four-packs of Cadbury Cream Eggs. And not just because it was Easter on Sunday. No, I ate them all because they were there. Yeah, I know, I’m pretty impressive.

Anyway, my lack of self-control got me thinking: If you finally acquiesced to my demand for year-round access to creamy fondant goodness, that would give someone like me (read: someone with excellent taste in candy) the potential to consume 104 boxes of Cadbury Cream Eggs in a 12-month period. That’s an increase of approximately 650% from the current potential that exists today. And by “current potential,” I am referring to the fact that - let’s face it - you’re a little stingy with the output.

Think of it. If you expanded to 12-months of Cadbury Cream Egg circulation, you could potentially increase your profits by 650% in the U.S. alone! And while we’re on the subject of expansion, thanks for the nugget of effort around the holidays with the Holiday Ornament Cream Egg. Well played and much appreciated. I do just want to take this time to reiterate the point I’ve been making since I was a child: the Cadbury Cream Egg is a candy for ALL seasons. Stocking stuffers, Easter baskets, Flag Day BBQs, back-to-school treats, “Congratulations, it’s Wednesday” celebrations… Do you see what I’m getting at here? We’re talking total confectionery dominance and mass, sweeping marketplace awareness.

I look forward to a day when the Cadbury Cream Egg is a part of my everyday life. Until then, I eagerly await next spring.

Injury Report

posted April 10th, 2009 by Julie

Okay, so, I have to share an embarrasing moment so the ENTIRE office can be in on my most humiliating Merlot moment yet! On the way back from picking up lunch (a glorious combination of Tom Kha soup and white rice from Bangkok Thai) I slipped and fell on the oh-so shiny lobby tile! WOW, nothing humbles you quicker than feeling like the little kid on the playground everyone’s looking at in shock, awe and with incredible sympathy! And, to make it even more painful, in formal Merlot style (which I appreciate greatly!), I had to complete a formal injury report…better safe than sorry I guess! :)

So, a word to the wise…when returning from lunch with incredible excitement over the flavorful tastes you’re about to enjoy 1. walk slow in your four-inch heels 2. pick up your feet and 3. just don’t fall!
