San Francisco’s iconic Painted Lady gets a facelift

America’s modern woman is both elegant and hardworking. She is cherished by those lucky enough to know her and universally admired by those who only wish to. Business and marketing executive Charlene Li is one of these women. That’s why it makes sense that she and her husband, Côme Laguë – two very well-known San Francisco residents –recently made it their mission to transition a beloved Victorian “lady” into the 21st century.

The “Painted Ladies” are Victorian-era homes that comprise the famous “Postcard Row” in San Francisco.  Postcard Row is the second most photographed tourist attraction in the city. Lining one side of Alamo Square park, the famed homes are familiar as the backdrop for the popular 90s sitcom Full House. So, when Côme and Charlene purchased the historic home at the end of the row, they knew they had to remodel it with products befitting its status as an American icon.

With an eye for detail and quality, Côme and Charlene selected products from two Merlot Marketing clients to upgrade their home’s kitchen. Our clients NanaWall and Dacor helped to transform a dark, cramped kitchen into a bright, modern gathering space with state-of-the-art appliances.

Typical of Victorian-era homes, the original floor plan included a small kitchen in the back of the house, closed off to natural light. The owners replaced the entire back wall of the kitchen with NanaWall SL60 floor-to-ceiling folding glass panels. The custom-built operable wall floods the room with natural light and provides uninterrupted views of the garden, making the kitchen appear larger and providing a natural transition from indoors to the outside.

With the structural upgrades completed, the homeowners were ready to create the kitchen of their dreams. San Francisco is a city known for its food, and the homeowners are passionate home chefs. With this in mind, Charlene and Côme decided on Dacor ultra-premium kitchen appliances.

The couple agreed that a home that epitomizes American-made elegance should be outfitted with American-made luxury appliances. The result of the kitchen makeover has truly transformed the space from a dark, uninviting afterthought to a distinctly modern hub. As a thought-leader in technology and the social sector, it’s no wonder that Charlene chose to include the world’s first range to feature a fully integrated wireless tablet – enabling her family to embrace technology while enjoying the tradition of a healthy, home-cooked meal.
